Arrival by Air

Most SSCM conference delegates will be flying into Denver International Airport (commonly called DIA, but its official abbreviation is DEN), which is about 45 miles from the conference hotel in Boulder. DIA has become one of the largest airports in the country and is served by all the major airlines. Southwest and United have particularly large operations.

Other Arrival Options

Here are a few notes for those driving cars. The address of the Hotel Boulderado is 2115 13th Street, Boulder, CO 80302. The hotel does not have any self-parking options. Valet parking rates are $2 per hour and $20 for overnight (includes the full day). The streets in downtown Boulder all have metered parking. Payment is required Monday through Saturday, 9:00 am to 7:00 pm. There are several municipal garages that only charge Monday through Friday. You can find more information about garages here: bouldercolorado.gov/parking-services/downtown-parking-garages. There is regional bus service (RTD) to Boulder from various locales. For more information see: www.rtd-denver.com. Be sure to look for routes that stop at Downtown Boulder Station, which is three-tenths of a mile from the Hotel Boulderado. (There is a newer terminal stop for many routes, called Boulder Junction at Depot Square. This is not walking distance to the hotel.)

Ground Transportation from the Airport

An excellent, inexpensive option for transportation between DIA and downtown Boulder is the nearly direct bus (RTD) service (there are a few intervening stops) between the airport terminal and the Downtown Boulder Station, which is about a three-block walk to the hotel. The rates are currently $9 one way. Cash is taken on the bus, but no change is given. You can now purchase tickets with a credit card at most bus stations (automated machines only), including the Transit Center at DIA. Schedules can be found on an interactive website: www3.rtd-denver.com/schedules/getSchedule.action?routeId=AB. Be sure to select weekday or weekend and the direction (Westbound to Boulder, Eastbound to DIA) to get the right schedule. Look for routes marked AB1. (AB2 routes do not stop at Downtown Boulder Station.)

Instructions for finding the Transit Center at DIA

The DIA terminal is on six levels. All incoming flights require use of the tram to get to baggage claim. The escalator from the tram will place you on level 5, which is the baggage claim level. After you have retrieved your luggage, look for signs for Westin Hotel/Transit Center. You will exit the terminal onto an exterior plaza and be presented with the option of a tall escalator, which will take you all the way down to the Transit Center on level 1. If you take the escalator, make a U-turn to get to the buses. If you prefer not to take the escalator with your luggage, walk across the exterior plaza to the Westin Hotel, and take the elevator down to level 1. (When you return to DIA, you can reverse these procedures, but please note that ticketing and check-in is on level 6. You’ll need to take an additional escalator or elevator up to level 6 once you are back inside the main terminal building.)

Shuttles

If you prefer door-to-door service from DIA, the locally owned Green Ride is recommended. Information about rates and reservations can be found here: www.greenrideboulder.com. The national chain Super Shuttle is also an option (www.supershuttle.com/locations/denverden/).

Other options

Uber and Lyft rides tend to start at about $70 one way, depending on the time of day. Taxis are considerably more.
