Two concerts are planned for the SSCM conference in Providence.

Cappella Artemisia

On Thursday evening, April 20 following the opening reception, will showcase the celebrated Italian ensemble Cappella Artemisia. The program features music composed by and for Italian nuns of the seventeenth century, and is dedicated to the great women of the Church, including Cristina of Bolsena, Catherine of Alexandria, and Ursula with her 11,000 virgins, all (according to legend) tortured and martyred for their faith.

Andreas Scholl with Victor Coehlo, David Dolata, and Laura Jeppesen

The Friday night concert on April 21 features the popular and dynamic countertenor Andreas Scholl, accompanied by Victor Coehlo and David Dolata on lutes and Laura Jeppesen on viola da gamba. The group will perform seventeenth-century music from England and Italy. The concert is co-sponsored by Providence College, Boston University (with thanks to Victor Coehlo), Wellesley College (with thanks to Claire Fontijn), and SSCM, and will take place in the beautiful Ryan Concert Hall on the campus of Providence College (bus transportation will be available, but must be reserved during registration).
